Marymount workshop

“Pick a card, any card. Memorise it, but don’t tell anyone else what it is!”

We started the day by jumping into a fantastical world of chance as each student was dealt a Tarot card. The character of the card, and its mysterious and unique qualities, was the starting point of our investigations. With qualities like ‘beginnings’, ‘balance’, ‘illusions’ and ‘luck’, we created installations of destiny and chance?

To begin, we played a series of design games. With each level, we developed the design of temporary inhabitable structures to be built in the lost spaces of the school grounds. The structures aimed to bring life back to these spaces using the drama and intrigue of the game of Tarot. Each one of these structures provided an opportunity for someone to interact with it in some way, whether a canopy, a hiding place, an unusual sound or quality of light… the answers lie in the destiny of the cards!
