An ocarina is a small musical instrument whose origins can be traced across many different cultural trajectories. The workshop provides a 3-hour period to connect with a universal history in animating clay with sound. The workshops takes participants step by step through the process of making their very own ceramic ocarina. The nature of creating a resonant body out of organic material makes each workshop different; the session will finish with a rich sounding timbre full of harmony and dissonance created by the uniquely formed sculptures. The workshop is family friendly and suitable for complete beginners to ceramics-everyone come away with a sounding sculpture.
Milan Tarascas is a recent graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art. His practice brings together an eclectic mix of processes and disciplines to examine the borders between sound, sculpture and social aspects of production.
This workshop is open to a maximum of 15 participants between the ages 6-12
Attendance at the workshop costs £20.
Participants can come to pick up the Ocarina’s *fired and glazed* in the Store Store after 3 weeks.
