Woven Drawings – Tapestry Workshop
March 2 1-6pm
A full day workshop at Store Store in Coal Drops Yard focussed on contemporary approaches to weaving. You will learn how to prepare the warp for a loom and gain an understanding of different weaving techniques such as plain weave, rya knotting, looping and pattern making. A diverse, exciting and surprising range of tools and materials such as yarn, plastics, metals and un-spun wool will be provided. Textile Artist and Artist Educator Áine Byrne will lead you through the design process of preparing and weaving on the frame loom. Because weaving is a slow and meditative process finishing your pieces within the time frame of this workshop may not be possible. As a result you will be provided with everything you need to carry on weaving at home.
Áine Byrne is a practicing Textile artist, designer and graduate of the Royal College of Art. Áine has completed a wide range of residencies and exhibitions both nationally and internationally with a focus on bringing traditional approaches to weave into the contemporary age through the use of sustainable materials, vibrant colour ways and modernist patterns. In addition to her work as a textile designer Aine is a part time lecturer in Fashion and Textiles. Áine is experienced at leading workshops in a range of settings including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Somerset House and her studio in Space, Hackney Wick.
