Designers Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo will introduce you to the fascinating craft of traditional candle making, demonstrating how to use materials and equipment to make high quality beeswax candles using the traditional ‘wax dipping’ method. All abilities are welcome, and you’ll leave the workshop with a set of two dipped candles, one hand-twisted candle and six birthday candles for your home or to give to a loved one-all wrapped and stamped with a bespoke wax seal.
Born in Hanoi, Lola grew up in London and was curious from an early age about how objects are made. Drawing, making and the connections between materials, processes and makers are all central to her practice. Yesenia is a musician alongside her design work and explores the narrative potential of materials through collaborations with experts in the fields of geology, anthropology and craft. She defines herself as a ‘material teller’ and uses design as a means to engage with diverse audiences on contemporary ecological challenges.
The workshop is open to a maximum of 10 participants (age 16+) on a first come, first served basis. Attendance at the workshop costs £40 (£30 students) with all proceeds supporting our After School Club for local state school students.
