Tutors:
Áine Byrne

14.00-16.00

This workshop is focussed on contemporary approaches to weaving. You will learn how to prepare the warp for a loom and gain an understanding of different weaving techniques such as plain weave, rya knotting, looping and pattern making. Textile Designer Áine Byrne will lead you through the design process of preparing and weaving on the frame loom.

A loom along with special weaving tools designed and made by Áine will be sent out to you as a kit in advance, together with a diverse, exciting and surprising range of materials.

Áine Byrne is a practicing Textile artist, designer and graduate of the Royal College of Art. Áine has completed a wide range of residencies and exhibitions both nationally and internationally with a focus on bringing traditional approaches to weave into the contemporary age through the use of sustainable materials, vibrant colour ways and modernist patterns. In addition to her work as a textile designer and maker Aine is a full time lecturer at NCAD, Dublin. Áine is experienced at leading workshops in a range of settings including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Somerset House, Coal Drops Yard and the Create Place at St. Margarets house.

The workshop is open to a maximum of 10 participants (age 14+) on a first come, first served basis. Attendance at the workshop costs £65 with all proceeds supporting our After School Club for the local state school students.
